About this collection
Paisley — the teardrop motif the world calls Indian, and Indians call buta. Our paisley hand-block prints come from Sanganer carvers who have been cutting this teardrop into teak for nine generations.
A machine-screen paisley has sharp, uniform teardrops. A hand-block paisley has subtle shift at each repeat — one teardrop a hair wider, the next tilted a degree, the inner swirl pressed slightly deeper. That tiny drift is not a flaw. It is the signature of a wooden block in a chhipa's hand.
Our paisley collection runs across three fabric weights:
The buta began as a stylised mango in Mughal textile courts, then travelled to Kashmir shawls, then to Victorian paisley scarves (named after the Scottish town that copied the design). Today, a Sanganeri paisley is a return to the source — printed by hand within 3 km of Jaipur.
Gentle cold-water machine wash, inside-out, first 3 washes. Line dry in shade. Medium iron on the plain back. Our natural dyes soften gracefully; the paisley will deepen rather than fade over years.
