3-layer mulmul (muslin) cotton · 90-110 GSM · India’s lightest cotton bedding · Sanganer hand-block print (GI 2010) · Azo-free IS 7880 dyes · Single, Double, Queen sizes
Mulmul dohars are India's lightest cotton bedding — 3 layers of handwoven muslin, hand-block printed in Sanganer on 100% cotton. Grandmothers across the subcontinent sleep under them from March to October; our dohars continue that tradition at 90–110 GSM total weight.
Each dohar is pressed by Sanganer chhipa artisans in azo-free IS 7880 pigments. Available in Single, Double and Queen with reversible print on both faces. Breathes through monsoon humidity, softens with every wash.
What is a mulmul dohar?
A mulmul dohar is a 3-layer cotton muslin cover, hand-stitched to hold three gauze-weave sheets together. Lightweight, breathable, and traditionally India's go-to cover for mild summers and AC bedrooms. Grandmothers call them ‘razai in waiting’ — too light for winter, perfect for everything else.
How is a dohar different from a quilt or blanket?
A dohar is 3 thin muslin layers (~400–600g for Queen). A quilt has cotton batting inside (~800g–1.2kg). A blanket is single-layer woven or fleece. For warmth order: blanket < dohar < quilt < comforter < duvet. See our full comparison.
Which size dohar fits my bed?
Single (60×90 inches) for a single bed; Double (90×100 inches) for a Double / Queen bed; Queen (90×108 inches) for a Queen / King bed. Dohars drape — so pick one size that falls generously off the sides.
Will my dohar shrink or bleed?
Minor 2–3% shrinkage after first cold wash is normal; dyes release excess pigment for 1–2 washes then set. Wash separately in cold water, air dry in shade. After the second wash the dohar is stable for years.
How do I care for a mulmul dohar?
Gentle cold machine wash with mild detergent (no bleach). Line dry in shade. Light steam iron on reverse if needed. Store folded, not hung — the muslin weave is delicate. Full guide: care for hand-block printed cotton.
Can mulmul dohars be used in winter?
Yes, as an inner layer under a quilt or comforter. On their own they are too light for sub-15°C nights. Layered, they add softness without adding heat.
