Curtain Size Guide India — Window & Door Panel Dimensions

Standard Indian curtain panel widths are 48 inches and 54 inches. Lengths vary by purpose: window curtains are 60 inches, long window 90 inches, door curtains 84 inches. This guide covers how to measure, how many panels you need, and how to pick between tab-top and rod-pocket.

Standard curtain sizes in India

Panel type Width × Length (inches) Centimetres Use
Short window 48 × 60 122 × 152 Kitchen / small window
Window 48 × 84 122 × 213 Standard bedroom window
Long window 54 × 90 137 × 229 Floor-length living room
Door 48 × 84 122 × 213 Standard Indian door 7 ft
Long door 54 × 108 137 × 274 French door, patio door

How to measure your window or door

  1. Width — measure the ROD, not the window frame. The rod should extend 4–6 inches beyond the frame on each side so curtains clear the glass when open.
  2. Length — from the rod to where you want the curtain to end: sill (just at frame bottom), apron (4 inches below frame), or floor (0.5 inch above floor).
  3. Panel count — multiply the rod width by 1.5× to 2× for fullness. Divide by panel width to get the number of panels. A 60-inch rod with 48-inch panels → buy 2 panels (96 inches total = 1.6× fullness).

Tab-top vs. rod-pocket vs. eyelet

  • Tab-top — fabric loops at the top slip over the rod. Casual, cotton-friendly, easy to open and close. Thread Kalaa default.
  • Rod-pocket — a sewn pocket at the top the rod threads through. More gathered look. Harder to slide.
  • Eyelet / grommet — metal rings punched through the fabric. Modern, slides smoothly, needs a thinner rod.

Fabric for Indian curtains

Thread Kalaa prints every curtain on 200–250 GSM cotton canvas — heavy enough to drape well, light enough to let soft light through. Hand-block printed on one side (the room-facing side). Lined with plain cotton on the back.

Frequently asked questions

How many curtain panels do I need per window?

Measure your rod width. Multiply by 1.5× for a tailored look, 2× for a full-gathered look. Divide by panel width. For a 60-inch rod, 2 standard 48-inch panels give a 1.6× fullness — the Indian middle ground.

Are Thread Kalaa curtains lined?

Yes. Plain cotton back-lining is included. The hand-block print faces the room; the lining faces the window.

Will the colour fade from sun exposure?

Our natural-dye curtains fade slowly over 2–3 years into a softer version of their original tone — part of the hand-block aesthetic. Rotate the curtains top-to-bottom once a year to fade them evenly.
